Born in Thessaloniki, Thanasis Kafetzis graduated in 2016 from the Film Studies Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His movies have been screened in film festivals and art exhibitions around the world, including New York, Berlin, Marseilles, Valencia, Athens and Thessaloniki. He was awarded for his work at Chalkida Documentary Festival in Greece and the BUZZ CEE film festival in Romania. As a filmmaker he has worked for Al Jazeera, ARTE, TV5, ERT, and for numerous documentaries as long as feature and short films. His last work as a cinematographer and director's assistant, the documentary "Next stop: Utopia" (dir. Apostolos Karakasis), was premiered as an official selection in IDFA, and won multiple awards around the world, including the silver medal at the 35th URTI International Grand Prix for Author’s Documentary. In May 2017 he represented Greece in the 18th European Young Artists Biennale which was held in Tirana, Albania. He currently lives and works in Athens.
