Everybody is hoping that the dry season will start soon but off now there is still no sign of the dry season. Nevertheless, this doesn’t stop us to continue working on the project and still have allot of fun. We started this week with working in the hospital. We wanted to do some tests in the field but because of the rain we had to wait. On Tuesday, it was dry and we went to Musa’s house to test our bricks. It was exhausting work because we had to dig all the soil everywhere.
Monday l The first day for Maud in the field, Jackson brings her to the family for an introduction. Michiel and Beata join. After the morning, Maud and Jackson started working through all the documents and data to decide what was missing and need to be done. At the end of the day there is a big to-do list and a plan for tomorrow to fulfil chapter six. In the evening Maud went back to bed early, while the other team members celebrated Atdhe’s Birthday. The plan was to go to the Kitale museum where we could see authentic historic houses. Too bad that the exhibits were very limited, and Cleophas was entertained most by the snake pit they had. We started our week by visiting different construction sites on the Mt. Elgon trust where we had a good talk with Bahati (the head Fundi). In order to understand how the foundation will be, Bahati gave us information about the different soil layers and on which layer we should build. We also discussed our detailed foundation drawing. Tuesday - Friday l Jackson left for Nairobi to run some errands since no work was going to take place during the week. Saturday l Maud would join the team on the 15th of October in Kitale. However, before she could join them, she had a big travel to plan for. On Saturday morning 6.30 she left with her mom, dad and boyfriend to Brussels Airport, Zaventum.
